Kevin "Old Pop"
Kevin graduated from Hocking College with a degree in Forestry but always had interest in owning a farm. Kevin’s interests in farming became a reality after meeting Sarah in 1988. They were married in 1991 and moved to the family farm that was owned by Sarah’s parents. Kevin has had a vision for the farm ever since. His goal was to create a sustainable farm that could support a family and produce food for others, all while maintaining the integrity of the historic farm. Kevin’s passion for the farm and his strong work ethic have been a major contribution to what the farm is today. The ideas for the buildings, animal facilities, and the pastures were all designed and implemented by Kevin, and he continues to develop plans for improving the farm and the business. He is able to construct just about anything on the farm and also knows how to fix things that require maintenance. Kevin keeps everyone’s vehicles running, makes improvements to the farm buildings, rebuilds old houses, and makes sure the hay gets baled on time. In addition to all this, he works for the United States Department of Agriculture in Carroll County and has played an important role in the ‘pasture walk’ program that was created to educate local farmers about better grazing methods. In his free time Kevin enjoys taking the family canoeing down the scenic creek at Beaver Creek State Park.
Sarah "Modre"
Sarah is the brains behind the farm. From ordering seeds in the spring to determining when to plant the cover crops on the garden in the fall, all of the planning that goes on behind the scenes is completed by her. Sarah is passionate about the high tunnels and they are continuously in full production throughout the growing season because of her hard work and ambition. She strives to produce the highest quality products for the customers at the farmer’s market. Along with the multitude of vegetables grown in the tunnels and the outdoor gardens, Sarah has created a market for cut flowers. A large portion of the garden is now devoted to flower production. Each week, she harvests buckets of flowers which are turned into beautiful bouquets to be sold at the market. In addition to her full time job working the farm and being a mother, she is a substitute teacher at United Local High School. The students at school call her ‘the smartest woman in the world,’ and if you spend very much time around her you will understand why. She seems to know a little bit about everything and she is very enthusiastic about educating others, especially in the field of agriculture and natural resources. She is also an excellent cook and prepares a meal from scratch every night for her family using products grown on the farm.
